Norwalk Night Under Fire
|
08-01-2009
The Norwalk 32nd annual Night Under Fire was one heck of
a show to say the least. Watching Bob Motz burn down the
large sign behind the burnout box was to say least
interesting and the fireworks display was great as
usual.
The Door Wars program was a great show with some
fantastic racing as usual.
John qualified with 4.049 @ 182.33. First round victory
came with a 4.054 against Pat Moore who ran into some
trouble, and this brought John up against the
"Erie Boys" Brian and John Vergotz. When the green bulb
lit both cars were out great but at about 250' in a ball
of flame the rivaled the "Big Bang" Vergotz had a
nitrous explosion and John ran into some shake at about
200' but took the "W" with a 4.267 @ 172.54.
By the finals John and his Tuner Tom had been doing
some hard work to get this far, and it had been a tuff
afternoon. Dave Roemer sponsor of the days event had
taken out the number one qualifier Bob Rahaim on a
holeshot win with a 4.02 to Bobs 4.01 but Dave was at
the stripe first and that left it with John against Dave
in the finals.
John took the win running a 4.156 @ 178.59 against
Dave's 4.294. Dave ran into some shake at about 300 foot
and by the 330 it was over. Congratulations to both
teams on a great race and to Dave for putting on a great
event the "R & R Auto Body Extreme" Door Wars during the

ADRL Martin, Michigan

|
06-06-2009
US131 Martin, Michigan ADRL
summer drags. Great weekend of racing John’s Camaro was
on a mission and in the 0's most of the time. John made
the field qualifying with a 4.05 which put him in the
eleven spot and up against the Al-Anabi car of Burton
Auxier for the first round.
While in the lanes the weather
looked like it was going to delay the start of round one
but the sprinkles stopped and John was lined up with
Auxier. As the tree activated John left in front
of the Al-Anabi Camaro and at about 300 feet Auxier
experienced a tremendous Nitrous explosion sending
flames well behind the car. John took the stripe while
running a nice 4.049 @ 182.01.
Luckily
Auxier was not injured in the serious explosion, and
congrats to both teams on a great race.
Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and the
finals were
postponed
until the Topeka, KS. race in July.
Other local
racers at the ADRL were Mark Malcuit, in his 68 Tim
Mcamis Camaro running his best with a new combination of
4.17 and John and Brian Vergotz in their 68 Bickel

This weekend turned out to be a Double Header for the
DeCerbo team, as John had another W at Thompson Raceway
"Asphalt Wars".
With temps in the upper 80's during the afternoon and
gradually dropping as the evening approached, the track
prep was great all day allowing The crew chief Tom to
throw some serious power at it, and power it made.
John made top qualifier with a 4.16 and as the day
progressed to the 2nd round John put down a crowd
pleasing 4.08 as Pat Moore ran into shake early in the
run.
In the finals John was up against the Dave Roemer
"Gladiator" car, as the lights went green both cars left
on a mission but Roemer seemed to get a little loose at
the 330 with the DeCerbo Camaro running straight down
Broadway laying down a 4.07 @ 181 MPH !! to
Dave's 4.35.
Congratulations to both teams for a great race.
